Hymn competitions

Summer 2019 – and ’tis the season for hymn competitions. Originating in the USA and Ireland; all with financial rewards attached – but, most important, all with stimulating themes and opportunities for worship-based creativity.

Pentecost Hymn Competition – inviting a new setting of the hymn “Holy Spirit, Ever Dwelling” by Timothy Rees (Hymns & Psalms 303). Submissions due by 1 September, 2019. More details.

Christmas Carol Competition – “a new [4-part] Christmas carol that will become a beloved addition to the Advent and Christmas traditions” at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, Minneapolis/Victoria, Minnesota. Submissions due by 15 October, 2019. More details.

Tune Competition – to provide a tune for a newly commissioned hymn by Carl P. Daw: “Out of Silence Music Rises”. Submissions due by 31 July, 2019. To participate, email Isaac Drewes, Utech Fellow at the Eastman School (Rochester, NY), to indicate interest and receive a copy of the text. More details.
