Memories and murders

Two recent books demonstrate the power of hymn texts to intrigue and inspire. From Baptist minister and journalist Mark Woods, the stories behind 70 hymns – many of them included in Singing the Faith; and from Methodist local preacher and university lecturer Judy Ford, a crime novel.

In Stories behind the hymns – why they matter, Mark writes about the way in which hymns have expressed the faith of “people like us”.

In The hymns what dunnit, Judy speaks to Laurence Wareing about the values that underpin her novel Changing Scenes of Life.
