Presbyters and Deacons being received into full connexion at Methodist Conference

As representatives and guests of the Methodist Church from throughout the British Connexion and around the world prepare to meet in Southport for Conference (25 June – 2 July 2015), here’s a reminder of two Conference-inspired hymns published on Singing the Faith Plus.

From the hand of the outgoing President, the Revd Ken Howcroft, came a hymn intended for singing as part of the process of ordaining presbyters and deacons – one of the highlights of Conference week. In Ken’s view, Dear Lord in heaven, we come as your people meets the need for a contemporary hymn about the specific call to ordained ministry.

The Revd Ruth Gee's reflections on Hebrew scriptures inspired Andrew Brown's hymn

We have also been pleased to be publishing Andrew Brown’s We cannot bear the full light of your glory, inspired by the address given in 2013 by the then new Methodist president for 2013-14, the Revd Ruth Gee. It’s a thought-provoking text that re-asserts the mystery of God and explores our partial experience of God’s presence and will.
